Nor where Browns palms raised, according to analysis by forensic pathologist Dr. Judy Melinek. Protesters shrugged at all of this, declaring they would continue to honor Browns memory by chanting, Hands up, dont shoot. Demonstrators chant Hands up, dont shoot! on the steps of the National Portrait Gallery in protest a day after the Ferguson grand jury decision to not indict officer Darren Wilson in the Michael Brown case Nov. 25.Photo: Getty Images Even if you dont find that its true, its a valid rallying cry, Ferguson protester Taylor Gruenloh told The Associated Press. If a few black-owned businesses get destroyed, and others are forced out of business by rising insurance costs, who cares? At least the protesters feel righteous. Similarly, we all know rape is a rampant problem in elite-college fraternities, even if the smoking gun turned out to be a toy pistol. After Rolling Stones UVA rape story led to protests, vandalism and cancelled donations, the magazine appended a shrug of a disclaimer to the story and continued to publish the 8,000 word opus on its website.

Nearly 6 Years Later, Obama Far From Closing Guantanamo - Cn

Publié le 14/12/2014 à 14:09 par hensleybnni

Guantanamo detainees -- of which there have been nearly 800 -- were allegedly tortured at the site, drawing widespread international condemnation from human rights and civil liberties advocates who decried the interrogation techniques and the U.S. authority to detain the suspected terrorists without charges. Nearly all Guantanamo prisoners are being held without charges, and while about half of those are considered high-level threat detainees, the remainder were determined to be low-level threats by a task force of top U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies. Those in the latter group could gain their freedom, provided security conditions could first be met in their host countries. Security concerns have set back and stalled the shuttering of the notorious facility, and the release of Guantanamo prisoners has drummed up serious opposition in Congress on both sides of the aisle. In December 2010, Congress amended the annual defense budget bill to prevent the transfer of any Guantanamo detainees to the United States. That defeated the Obama administration's plans announced a year earlier to try several Guantanamo detainees involved in the 9/11 terrorist attacks in U.S. federal court.

Speculation is widespread, however, that there were other reasons for their presence in Mali, a long-time desert hideout for al-Qaida and other extremists in Africas Sahel region. Hostage-taking is a lucrative business in Mali and other Sahel countries. American officials have quietly accused France and other European countries of paying ransoms for their kidnapped citizens. Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb took numerous Western hostages until France intervened in Mali in January 2013 to rout out extremists. Hollande on Tuesday urged French citizens and companies to take continued precautions against kidnappings. At one point, at least 14 French nationals were held hostage by Islamic militants in West Africa. Pierre Martinet, a former official with Frances DGSE spy service, said French citizens will continue to be targeted by extremist kidnappers because they know its among the governments that directly negotiate for their liberation. Its part of geopolitics, Martinet told BFM television. I know very well that we have given money; I know people myself who have given money.

Qatar Judge Overturns Conviction Of U.s. Couple In Child's D

"Grace and I want to go home and be reunited with our sons. We have not been able to grieve our daughter's death, but we want to thank the judge for today's decision." The Huangs -- who were living in Qatar while Matthew Huang worked for a international company working on construction projects for the 2022 World Cup -- were arrested in January 2013 when their 8-year-old daughter Gloria died. They were charged with starving her to death, convicted in March and sentenced to three years in prison. The Qatari prosecutor sought to paint Grace and Matthew Huang as inhumane -- alleging they bought their adopted daughter cheaply from her poverty-stricken parents in Africa -- and had threatened to seek human trafficking charges. The couple spent nearly a year in prison before being freed in November 2013 pending their appeal. In explaining his decision to overturn the conviction, Judge Abdulrahman al-Sharafi cited weaknesses in forensic reports and said the trial judge failed to properly consider testimony from witnesses who said Gloria wasn't deprived. A report by pathologists hired by the defense, obtained by CNN, stated they found no evidence tissue samples were taken from Gloria's body after her death, despite the fact Qatari investigators submitted an autopsy report.

The case also suggested racial overtones, when questions were raised by the prosecutor and police about why the Huangs, who are of Asian descent, adopted children from Africa. The Qatari prosecutor sought to paint Grace and Matthew Huang as inhumane, alleging they bought their adopted daughter cheaply from her poverty-stricken parents in Africa and had threatened to seek human trafficking charges. Criticism of Qatari justice The State Department had expressed concern about the legal proceedings and disappointment in the verdict. A report by pathologists hired by the defense, obtained by CNN, stated they found no evidence tissue samples were taken from Gloria's body after her death, despite the fact Qatari investigators submitted an autopsy report. Advocates for the Huangs suggested the lab report was fabricated and said their request with the Qatari judiciary for a formal investigation went unanswered. A United Nations special rapporteur investigating the justice system in Qatar also called attention to the Huangs' case and urged the government to release them and send them home. Fighting family Matthew Huang was employed in Doha by an international company working on construction projects for the 2022 World Cup. After the couple's arrest, their two sons, also adopted from Africa, were temporarily placed in a Qatari orphanage, but have since been sent back to the United States to live with Grace Huang's mother. The entire family chipped in during the prolonged separation.

Legal experts expressed doubts that the GOP would prevail or that the case could be concluded during Obama's presidency. The suit echoedRepublicancomplaints over Obama's Thursday night announcement of executive orders preventing the deportation of 5 million people who immigrated to the U.S. illegally. Problems During The Hagel Era - Business Insider

The raid failed to free the captives, who were both executed by the terrorists later in the summer although its existence was leaked to the media in late August as the fight against ISIS heated up. August 2014 Hagel infuriated the White House by contradicting the claims of President Obama that ISIS was equivalent to a junior varsity basketball squad in comparison to established terrorist networks. In Hagel's eyes ISIS remained an "imminent threat to every interest we have." October 2014 Hundreds of US soldiers began to fly to Liberia to fight the rapidly expanding Ebola epidemic in western Africa. Thousands more were expected to be deployed afterwards. Hagel was at odds with the White House at times during the response. November 21, 2014 The White House secretly ordered a continuation of military operations in Afghanistan, despite assurances that the US's military role would end in the country by 2014. Hagel resigned three days after the decision to continue the war in a sign of possible contention with Obama. Reactions to Hagel's departure: One former Obama official told Zeke Miller of Time that an administration without Hagel would be an improvement: Not sure what kind of Kool-Aid they are drinking if they think that getting rid of Hagel and not the national security advisor whos flailing to handle the [ISIS] problem is going to make things better."
